Privacy notice ยท updated October 9, 2026
Privacy should be clear by default.
This notice describes how the current free Captionly service processes information when you request a transcript.
Information used to provide a transcript
Captionly processes the public YouTube URL you submit, your selected caption language, and the transcript response required to provide the service. You do not need to create an account or provide a YouTube password.
Security and browser sessions
The website uses a short-lived, signed, HttpOnly browser-session cookie to protect the transcript endpoint from automated abuse. The cookie does not contain your transcript, YouTube credentials, or private server keys.
Caching and operational records
Successful transcript results may be cached for up to 30 days to improve speed and reduce repeated upstream requests. Hosting and network providers may process standard request information such as IP address, user agent, timestamps, and error details for delivery, security, and reliability.
Service providers
The current service uses Vercel for the public web gateway, Render for server processing, YouTube as the requested content source, and configured network or transcript providers when needed for reliable extraction. With your consent, Google Analytics measures general site usage; Captionly disables Google signals and advertising personalization and does not intentionally send transcript text to analytics. Each provider processes information under its own terms and privacy practices.
Your choices
Do not submit private or restricted links or information you are not authorized to process. You can stop using the service at any time and clear the browser-session cookie through your browser settings.
